On to the topic of self-mutilation, after reading so literature on self-mutilation, it seems as if that people who self-mutilate are NOT necessarily crying out for attention. Instead, it seems as if that they are relieving themselves of pain that they are feeling. And that can be very understandable, can’t it?
So here’s a thought: What if smoking was part of the self-mutilation regime? What if drug taking is part of the self-mutilation regime?
After all, both activities mutilate the bodies internally? Drugs destroy some parts of the brain (I’m not too sure, and I am sure that there is medical literature out there to back up on this claim), and I think there is sufficient evidence that smoking blackens your lungs.
Food for thought?

as a recovering self harmer, i often compare my addiction to those of drugs and/or alcohol in order to give people a greater understanding of what i am going through. both drugs and self harm are coping mechanisms for those who do not know how to cope in a healthy way. there are many similarities between the two addictions, you just have to get below the surface (literally and figuratively) to see them.
ah: thanks for the comment. Appreciate the insight!
